Wedgewood of Utah has tendered his resignation 1 from the national army and that the resignation has been, or will be, ac-! cepted by the president. General Wedgewood's resignation was not j brought about on account of any lack" of military ability on his part, for ho is regarded as a very capable officer and fully competent to perform the duties du-ties incident to the command of a bri-, gaae. But it is believed he did not measure meas-ure up to the physical requirements ' of general officers in line for foreign service. It has been found that the demands of the service abroad for the ' commanding general of the expeditionary expedition-ary forces to call upon the war depart-ment depart-ment to have every general officer designed de-signed for that service undergo a most stringent medical examination, and it ' is believed in General Wedgewood's case he fell short of tho physical requirements. re-quirements. With the outbreak o( tho Spanish-American war in the; i spring of 1S98 he was commissioned I ' as first lieutenant of B battery, Utah ! ! light artillery. During his service in the artillerv ! j General Wedgewood saw the fall of Manila and went through the cam-i paigns incident to tho extension of 1 ; American occupancy of the north I shore of the Island of Luzon to San I Fernando. He returned home in July, ' ' 1899, and was mustered out on August i 1G of the same year as captain of A -battery, Utah light artillerv. March 8, 1907, he took the oath as adjutant general of the national guard 1 of Utah. In July, 1913. he was ap-1 pointed a member of the national mill- I tla board by the secretary of war, D Several weeks ago General Wedgewood Wedge-wood was made a brigadier general in the national army and was assigned to Camp Fremont, Cal. He was later assigned to Charlotte, N. C.
