Show ELKS UNVEIL GREAT MEMORIAL TO DEAD LOS ANGELES, Dec. 4. The 11 o'clock toast of the Elks' lodge was given here last night under circumstances circum-stances said to bo unique in the history his-tory of tho fraternity, when Los Angeles Ange-les B. P. O. E. No. 99, unveiled a great monument to departed Elks at its plot In Inglewood cemetery. Tho Elks at the local lodgo, and many visiting brethren, gathered at tho plot a fow minutes bofore 11 o'clock and when that hour arrived, it was heralded by the striking of a gong. Tho monument was then un- veiled with the usual ceremonies, augmented aug-mented by .the 11 o'clock toast to absent ab-sent brothers. The new monument is a bfonzo elk, standing on a huge rock, left in natural nat-ural formation, which is in turn supported sup-ported by a granite base twenty foot square and seven feet high, tho wholo measuring thirty feet from tho top 1 of the elk's antlers to tho ground. nrt I |
