It was stated by Mrs. Calva Berry Hill, daughter of the injured woman, last night, that her mother's condition was worse and that an operation probably prob-ably would be necessary. Physicians In charge declared today that the probability proba-bility of an oporation was exceedingly exceeding-ly remote and that no indications of poisoning or serious developments, which might require an operation, are in prospect. Every effort to secure a statement from Berry has failed. He refuses to discuss the affair in any manner. Visitors Visit-ors are met with a cold stare or greeted greet-ed with the merest commonplace remarks. re-marks. Police officers also have failed to obtain any statement from him. He has not employed counsel. The police have secured a statement from James Grow, the switchman who interfered and ' probably saved the woman from murder and the man from committing murder and suicide. His statement flatly charges "deliberate aim" and denies that Berry showed signs of drunkenness. Mrs. Berry's statement will be taken when she becomes be-comes stronger. The shooting occured Saturday night at the Royal Dancing academy, on Washington avenue. Berry Is manager of the academy and, though divorced, Mrs. Berry had, been acting as ticket collector for him. It is believed jealousy jeal-ousy drove him to attempt tho life of his former wife because she had threatened to go to California and become be-come the bride of another man. |
