Show AMERICANS ON GUARD. A wild rumor spread last evening was to the effect that the President had been assassinated. Of course, there was no truth to the report. But the canard is a reminder that our President should be carefully guarded guard-ed during these perilous days. As the head of tho nation, with a great campaign before him, Woodrow Wilson Wil-son must be protected from all harm. His movements should be known only to tho men in high position, and, when his presence is required at the capitol, he should be escorted by troops. The shooting today of the soldier guarding the tunnel at Tonka, near Elko, Nevada, is a reminder that desperate des-perate men are planning diabolical plots and precautions must be taken, If treachery is to be held down. oo |
