Show BREAKS JAIL II LOGAW AND IS CAPTURED II OGDEI Charles E. Busch, a Greek bootlegger boot-legger who has been operating in Cache valley for somo length of time, was a patient man as long as the authorities au-thorities confined their punishment of him to fines, but when he was given a straight jail sentence of 250 days, in the calaboose at Logan, the action J of the court rankled in his breast and he took the first opportunity that presented pre-sented itself and broke jail. He is in the toils again, however, having been recaptured this morning by Patrolman Patrol-man Peter J. Naylin and Chauffeur Earl Wiggins on an Ogden, Logan & Idaho train. The opportunity to escape from the Logan jail came to Busco yesterday yester-day evening at supper time, according to his statement to the Ogden police. "The old man, he bring me supper," he said, "and I push him over and get away. I no mind when they make me pay $50 fine, but 250 in jail is too long. I can make no money in Jail." When Sergeant T. H. Blackburn explained to him that the authorities did not want his money, but wanted him to cease bootlegging, he said he would bo willing to pay the Logan court $100 to avoid serving the Jail sentence. He will bo taken back to Logan, however, and it is probable that his proclivity for illegally disposing of liquor will be blocked for a considerable length of time.' Tho local police department was apprised of the Greek's escape from the Logan jail early this morning, being be-ing also notified to watch the O. L. & I. train due in Ogden at 8:10 a. m. Officers Of-ficers Naylin and Wiggins were dispatched dis-patched to tho west Seventeenth street railroad crossing and there boarded the train. They quickly located lo-cated their quarry and placed him under un-der arrest. He had boarded the train ; at Deweyville. At the police station Sergeant Blackburn recognized him as ; a bootlegger who was serving time in the jail at Brigham City about two weeks ago. ! |
