Show I MAN! ATHLETES Call to Colors Attracts Dozens of Men Prominent in Athletic Field. CHICAGO, April 7. The call of the colors has attracted dozens of Chicago athletes and athletic officials,many of whoso names are known to sport followers fol-lowers throughout the country. The men have enlisted variously in the regular reg-ular army and navy, national guard and naval militia. Among those who have volunteered for active service are Charles A. Dean, John Clinnin and G."L. Glrard, widely known in this section as track and field meet officials. Dean has been commissioned an ensign in the naval reserves. Clinnin and Girard hold major's ma-jor's commissions in rafantry regiments regi-ments of the Illinois national guard. J. R. Graham, star pole vaulter of the Chicago Athletic association, is In training at the army aviation school in Pensacola, Fla.. while Andrew C. Ortmayer, expert wrestler and handball hand-ball player of the C. A. A., is doing similar duty at the army school in Memphis, Tenn. P. Leach, holder of the fifty-yard low hurdle junior central A. A. U. championship, is a member of the First infantry, I. N. G., now in active service, Danny Goodman, lightweight light-weight pugilist, also of tho First Illinois Illi-nois infantry, has arranged for leave of absence that he may battle wlthl Frankie Whitney in Des Moines, Iowa, : April 25. Ely Whitehead and Warran McCar-ry, McCar-ry, members of the Northwestern university uni-versity swimming team, which recently recent-ly won the western intercollegiate conference championship, are enrolled in tho medical corps of the United .&&S" States navy. ; 00 |
