Ogden Standard: With the view of encouraging home gardening and the utilization of vacant property in Ogden so there will be an increased food supply sup-ply and consequent diminishing of living liv-ing cost, the Goddard Pickle and Preserve Pre-serve company has decided to offer a number ot special cash awards to tho children who grow, during the 1917 season, the best 100 pounds of pickling pick-ling cucumbers and the best 100 pounds of tomatoes. In addition, the company will furnish a market for all surplus pickling cucumbers and tomatoes toma-toes that are grown by the children of Ogden, paying the customary prices for these products upon delivery. The awards will be divided as follows: fol-lows: Best 100 pounds of pickling cucumbers, cucum-bers, ?10. Second best 100 pounds of pickling cucumoers, $5. Third best 100 pounds of pickling cucumbers, $2.50. Fourth best 100 pounds of pickling cucumbers, 2.50. Fifth best 100 pounds of pickling cucumbers, cu-cumbers, $2.50. Plants for tomatoes and seeds for cucumbers, to be grown by children entering this contest, will be furnished absolutely free by the Goddard Pickle and Preserve nnmnnnv. thrnnp-h thp. Ogden Standard, all children entering the contest being notified in ample time for planting as to the date of this plant and seed distribution. Any boy or girl living in Ogden or vicinity who is 15 years or age or younger is entitled to enter this contest con-test upon registering his or her name and address at the Ogden Standard business office. Contestants who are unable to dispose dis-pose of their surplus of crops through the regular channels of trade will have the privilege of delivering this surplus to the Goddard Pickle and Preserve company plant, the customary prices being paid in cash for these vegetables upon delivery The Goddard Pickle and Preserve company believes that It is essential for the people of Ogden and vicinity '""-iiiiiii wiii.wjma.aJUfli :i -a '.hji ra to stimulate in every' possiblo way tho production of food this year and tho best utilization of all vacant property. ' Such steps will bring a lowering cost of living during the summer and fall months, provide a surplus of products for winter use and be of general bene- fit to the community, the state and 1 nation. While they are thus v serving in a patriotic cause, tney are . also benefiting themselves both financially finan-cially and physically and, in addition, are forming habits that will make them more self-reliant and better able to later cope with the greater problems prob-lems of life.
