Yesterday's later rally in speculative issues was resumed at the opening of today's market, mar-ket, munitions and equipments again leading the advance with shippings, metals and some of the high-grade fails, notable the transcontinentals. Lackawanna Steel rose more than two points, with a point or better for Bethlehem Beth-lehem Steel, new stock. Republic Iron, American Smelting, Marine preferred, Ohio Gas and Industrial Alcohol, the latter, however, soon reacted. United States Steel gained a substantial fraction frac-tion with South Carolina Chemical, Central Leather and sugars. CHICAGO, April 12. Steep advances ad-vances in the corn market attracted far more notice today than anything else on 'change. Reports were current that scores of distilleries would be utilized by the government exclusively exclusive-ly for the manufacture of denatured alcohol needed for military explosives. It was referred that a big Increase of the demand for corn would result. There were also Liverpool dispatches at hand telling of a probablo broad demand from Great Britain for American Ameri-can corn. Opening prices which ranged from 1-4 c off to 1-2 c up with May at $1.27 to $1 27 3-4 and July at $1.25 1-2 to $1.26 1-8 were quickly followed by jumps to $1 31 and $1.29 respectively but then a material setback. Rains in Kansas and Oklahoma temporarily tem-porarily eased down new crop deliveries deliv-eries of wheat. Tho May option, however, how-ever, continued to bo in demand from export and milling interests and with tho strength of corn son lifted July and September wheat.
