Show oo Dili TIF CaUGHT 1 ACT OF CARRYING MY SUITCASE G. H. Geddes, an employee of the Phoenix Construction company, summarily sum-marily punished a would-be thief this morning, the latter party being W. A. Dexter, a transient. And then, to make matters worse for Dexter, Chief of Polico Thomas E. Browning and Patrolman Pa-trolman O. H. Mohlman happened along and, after stopping Geddes in the midst of his enjoyment, placed, him under arrest. The trouble occurred oc-curred on lower Twenty-fifth street and interested the habitues of that thoroughfare not a little. Geddes explained tho circumstances in the affair to the police, stating that he left his hotel to go to the railway depot, taking his suitcase, containing about $70 worth of clothing and other articles, with him. Forgetting something some-thing when ho reached the sidewalk, he left the suitcase at the foot of the stairway and returned to the hotel office. of-fice. When he reached the street again the suitcase was missing, and looking westward ho saw two men hastening toward Wall avenue and one of them was carrying off his property. Without hesitation, he dashed down the street, caught up with the men and attempted to recover the suitcase. A struggle followed and with Dexter under him Geddes rolled off the sidewalk side-walk into the gutter. There the fight was continued and Geddes was pummelling pum-melling Dexter to his heart's content, when Chief Browning and Patrolman Mohlman came along. After investigating investi-gating the case tho officers arrested Dexter and he is now In jail awaiting the filing of a charge against him by the city or county attorney.
