The dispatch dis-patch says the victory of the Canadians in the struggle for Vimy ridge is more thorough than indicated by first reports. The only obscurity as late as Tuesday morning surrounded surround-ed the position of hill 1-15. Germans Fight Hard. "For tho retention of this," the message-says, "tho enemy fought with the utmost determination on Monday afternoon. af-ternoon. Tho yield of prlsdhers is much larger than tho first reports Indicated. Already Al-ready 3,280 men, including sixty officers, offi-cers, have been recorded and many more are to come. The final total may reach 4,000 prisoners to tho Canadian Ca-nadian troops alone." Advices to the militia department indicate the Canadian casualties around Vimy were S9 officers. At the lusual percentage this would mean 'about 1,200 men. The figures are considered con-sidered light in view of the number engaged. |
