Utah's high school and collegos have held their last athletic contests for some time In a meeting held yesterday, at which tho principal or representative, of every college and high school in the state was present, it was decided to permanently call off all intorscholastic and intercollegiate contests scheduled for this school year. This running means that tho pro- J posed college baseball league, the w state collegiate track meet, tho dla- mand games between the high schools, an,d the stato high school cinder path I meet are all sent to the discard heap. Supervising Principal Georgo A. , Eaton of the local high schools intro- j duced tho motion that all interschool athletic contests bo called off, and it ' passed without a dissenting vote. It is thought, however, that the various va-rious schools will not give up their athletic endeavors immediately, at least, but will hold class meets and games. According to Professor Eaton the reason for the ruling is in conformity con-formity with actions of schools all over the country. At tho West bide High school Heine Richardson will g0 on training his men and has a plan In mind to pit tho class teams against each other to keep interest in athletics at tho proper pitch. It is thought that tho other schools and colleges of the state will also tako action along similar simi-lar lines, for tho timo being, but if the. war situation takes on a more serious turn tho schools will suspend athletics entirely. -, nr |
