Show MORE UTE fill IN BLE ' DISTRICT 1 Marysvale, Utah, Nov. 16. Another ', remarkable discovery of potash has been made at a point about five miles north of this place. A large outcrop of Iron exists in ono of tho principal peaks on tho great eruptive rango which projects out eastward from the Tushar range, at a point east of Gold Mountain mining district, and connects con-nects with the Marysvale north-south mountains on tho east. Several hundred hun-dred carloads of iron ore have been shipped from the penk In question, it being but three miles east of thc Denver Den-ver & Rio Grande railroad, in Marysvale Marys-vale canyon, through which the Sevier Se-vier winds on its way to Millard county. Underneath the Iron there Is a very large deposit of what has been bo-Hevcd bo-Hevcd to be kaolin.. Colonel C. P. Taaker, a few weeks since, had tests of the white substance made by the geological survey, Washington. Re-Biilts Re-Biilts gave better than 9 per cent potxissium sulphate. Since then, the local chemist has made many tests, which run from 7 1-2 to 9 1-2 per cent potassium sulphate potash. Colonel Tasker secured a bond on the iron claims from H. L. Outzon of Richfield and, after making a score of more of locations, in order to cover cov-er and protect the potash ground, has started a good force of men at work, tunneling and trenching. The first thirty-six feet of tunnel yielded better than 9 per cent potash, and the remainder re-mainder of 110 feet yields 7 1-2 per cent. Mining is being done with mining min-ing augers and powder, eight feet per day of tunnel being the average. The "deposit outcrops on each side of. the peak presumably continuous, and is about 3000 feet in length, with width unknown. In fact, wherever, In the vicinity of the outcrop, the de-briB de-briB is removed, the potash rock is opened. The strike of the deposit is southeasterly, and is crossed by a north-south vein of the same material The kaolin-llkc deposit is believed to be altered alunlte. for the reason that chunks of "undigested" alunite are often encountered. No tests, so far as known, have been made for aluminum, alumi-num, but there is little doubt that It will vleld as much as tho unaltered alunlte, which carries about 14 per cent . The other recent alunite finds, southwest of town, are improving with development Especially Is that the case on the vein which descends from the top of Tenmile divide southerly down almost to Tenmile creek A short crosscut tunnel has opened up twentv-two feet of pure alunite at a depth'of sixty feet. A bunkhouse and boarding house are in course of erection erec-tion on the creek, and soon a long tunnel to be driven with machine drills, will be going into the mountainside mountain-side parallelling a rhyollte dyke, along v hich tho alunlte outcrop occurs. The potash mill of the Mineral Products company is daily turning out potash, an exceptionally large consignment consign-ment of which is now being loaded Some difficulties of a minor character charac-ter have kept the shipments down below be-low the mill capacity, but these are being overcome. President Howard F Chappcll is still on the ground supervising super-vising the improvements, and will re- main In Marysvale until the mill capacity ca-pacity of potash Is reached. |
