Show DEVELOPING UTAH INDUSTRIES. Eastern papers are helping to advertise ad-vertise Utah by giving publicity to the following: "Tho state of Utah has made another an-other record, of which it Is very proud. It seems that all tho gypsum used in the construction of tho San Diego fair buildings and 80 per cent of that used for tho San Francisco fair came from tho quarjles near Nephi, Utah. It is now well known that gypBum is one of the oldest building materials. It was used extensively In the building build-ing of the pyramids and very largely in the construction of the monumental architectural edifices reared by tho Greeks and the Romans. Tho product prod-uct of gypsum used in the fair buildings build-ings Is known as "staff" and was ast to Imitate the famous Roman traver tine. Of its beauty a thousand writers have written. Utah is proud that it furnished the material for the exposition structures and proud that it could have (furnished the material for the wonders of the ancients." Soon Utah will add another product to its list of manufactures which will receive wide notice. The alunite mines near MaryBvale are beginning to turn out-largo quantities oi potash, the fertilizer which Germany had nearly monopolized at tho opening of the great war. This reminds us that tho resources, of Utah aro as yet but scratched over. Some day Great Salt Lake alone will be yielding chemicals of a value beyond be-yond that of our mines of precious metals. |
