Show HOSPITAL SHIP SUNK BY MINE Three Hundred Saved Out of Total of 385 Officers and Men. GOES DOWN IN CHANNEL British Official Press Bureau Announces Disaster to the Converted Steamship Anglia. London, Nov. 17, G:25 p. m. The British hospital ship Anglia was sunk by a mine in the English channel Three hundred men were saved out of a total of 3S5. A statement issued by tho official press bureau gavo the news of the disaster. It said that of tho thirteen officers and 372 men on hoard the Anglia, 300 had been saved. Tho Anglia was a merchantman which was taken over by tho British admiralty after tho war began aud rented re-nted as a hospital ship She was 'commissioned in August of last year. There are four British steamships named Anglia. The one converted in-to in-to a hospital ship probably is the former London and Northwestern Railway company steamers of 1S62 tons gross. Sho is 329 feet long and was built in 1900 at Dumbarton. At tho time she was commissioned the Anglia was in command of Oscar de Satge, retired. |
