Representing an Investment of 5500,000, a strong lumber concern has recently beef,. launched in tte state of Idaho, the company bein; a consolidation of tbe Gem State Dimber company, organized organ-ized three ywrs ago as successors to the Weeter Lumber company, and qperatlng a Lne of retail lumber yards in southern and eastern Idaho, together to-gether with the Iowa Lumber company, compa-ny, also operating retail lumber yards In the same section for a number of years. The headquarters and general gen-eral admlilstratlve offices are at Po-catello. Po-catello. The conpany Is composed of eastern, east-ern, Idah and Utah capital. Among those havily interested are G. L. and E. J. Curtis of Clinton, Iowa, of the Curtis family who have been largely engaged since 1866 In the manufacture of lumber, sash and doors at Clinton, Iowa, and with factories and dcors at Clinton, Iowa, and with factories and warehouses at Chicago, III.; Wausau, Wis.; Sioux City, Iowa; Lincoln, Neb.; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Okla-homa; Detroit. Michigan, and other eastern points and also possessing extensive timber and lumber interests on the coast. Chapln A. Day and associates of ' Ogden and Chicago are also heavily interested. Mr. Day until two years 1 ago, was treasurer of Marshall Field I & Co., und Is a capitalist with large interests In Utah and thc west iu cement manufacture, intcrurban railroads, rail-roads, banls and other enterprises. Among tie stockholders from Utah are Georg E. Merrill, for several years general manager and now president pres-ident of Jorrison, Merrill & Co., the wholesale Imilding material tupply house, wliich has been engaged in business fn the intermountaln country coun-try for twenty years past, and which i does a large retail business in Salt Lake CIt Judge Andrew Howai is also associated with the enterprise I as a stockholder and as legal counsel. coun-sel. , Idaho stockholders are in active charge' o the conduct of the business. J. V. Damson of American Falls, Ida., is general manager and Lewis Pet-tit, Pet-tit, a wpll known lumberman of the Twin Fills section, is assistant general gen-eral maiager. George Ridgeway, as trcasun-r of the corporation, is manager man-ager of the general office, and is assisted as-sisted ly E. G. Reeu, until recently of Jeromei Idaho, where he has been Identifed with banking, lumber and farming industries of the north side sectio.i since- that country was opened open-ed upjseveral years ago. W. A. Duck-er Duck-er ofGoodlng, Idaho, is chief auditor, having been formerly district auditor for the Weeter Lumber company and the old Gem State Lumber company. The president of the New Gem State Lumber company is George E. Merrill of Salt Lake City, the vice presidents being .Messrs. G, L. Curtis. Clinton, Iowa, and C. A. Day, Ogden. Utah. Mr. Merrill's official connection connec-tion with the new company will in no way interfere with his interest and activities in the local concern. nn |
