Show THREE PLAYERS TIE FOR FIRST New York, N. Y., March 19. Three players E. W. Gardner and J. Ferdinand Ferdi-nand Poggenburg of New York, and Morris D. Brown of Brooklyn were tied for first place with four wins and one loss in the national amateur billiard tournament at tho end of tonight's contest, in which Brown defeated de-feated Joseph Mayer of Philadelphia, the present title holder. Poggenburg and Brown meet In the afternoon game tomorrow and the winner will be champion in the event that Mayer defeats Gardner in the evonlng contest. Should Gardner win, however, there still will be a tie for first place. The contest tonight between Brown and Mayer was the closest of the tourney. Score: Brown 400; average, 11 4-3G; high runs, 52, 35. 34. Mayer 379; average, 10 29-35; high runs, 49 37, 33. |
