Show FEDERAL GRAND JURY . RETURNS MANY INDICTMENTS The federal grand jury finished its work this afternoon after being In session eleven days. Seven indictments indict-ments were made public and a number num-ber of others were returned which will not be made known until the indicted in-dicted parties are in custody. In the report of the jury, Josoph H. Martin was Indicted on four counts, charging the use of the, mails to defraud. de-fraud. In each case his bail was set at 5200U. Joseph S. HIgglnbotham was indicted in-dicted on one count on the same charge. Benjamin E. Barnett, colored, was indicted on a charge of robbing tho United States mulls and Olaf J. Wil-mer Wil-mer was charged with impersonating a United States officer. After the report had been presented present-ed to, and accepted by, United States District Judge John II. Marshall, the trials of Barnett and Wllmer were taken up. Both men pleaded guilty and Barnett was sontenced to serve 60 days in tho Salt Lake county jail and Wilraer was sentenced to servo six months in the same prison. Barnett stole a registered letter from a mail pouch, at the Ogden Union Un-ion depot, and was in the act of destroying de-stroying it when he was caught., "Wllmer secured money from the proprietor of a Salt Lake hotel by pretending that he was a federal of-filer of-filer officially designated to collect it. nn |
