Show OUCKy JONES AND HIS RECRUIT ARRIVE TO PLAY BALL j I One regular member of the Ogden baseball team arrivod in the city late yesterday afternoon, accompaniodj by a promising recruit. The regular is "Ducky" Jones, the popular third baseman of last year's organization who needs no Introduction to Oden "fans." J Jones batting average last jear was .315 and he fielded .911, which was considered very satisfactory work. After passing the winter in California, whore he has been putting in some time this season in practice work, Jones says that he will fjtart his local practice immediately to get thoroughly acclimated before the game with the Chicago White Sox. The recruit is Joe Devino who was "discovered" by Jones while acting as a "scout" for the Ogden club during dur-ing the past two months. Devinc is a husky youngster, weighing nbout 175 pounds, aud has just reached his majority. He was playing semi-professional ball when the Ogdon third baseman noticed him and he was en ticed by the latter to cone to this city for a try-out, aftor having refused re-fused several good offers Irom other clubs. According to Jones; Devine is a classy outfielder and pitches some or rather is "some" pitcher. He is expected to make good. nn |
