Show FIFTEEN DAYS ON CHAIN GAiF John Eddy did not take friendly ad-Uce ad-Uce offered him by a policeman and now he must work for the city for 15 days because of this neglect. Eddy was arrested last night near Wall avenue on Twenty-fifth street, by Patrolman James Hearn and was loclwd upon a charge of disturbing tho peace. According to Patrolman Hearn Eddy was mixed up in a drunken drunk-en brawl and refused to get off tho public streets when asked to do so Not only did ho refuse to go but ho began to abuse the officer for daring to interrupt a little fight in which ho was the star performer. There was nothing left for the patrolman to do but arrest him and Eddy spent the night in Jail. This morning he entered a plea of not guilty In police court before the police Judge After Hearn had testified testi-fied and Jailer Hugbeit Anderson had told of the cursing and drunken condition con-dition of Eddy when he arrived at the Jail, Eddy took the stand He admitted admit-ted that he was drunk and also admitted ad-mitted that he haj been In a fight, but he said the only reason he was arrested ar-rested was because the policeman had a grudge against him When asked what reason he had for thinking that any officer had a grudge against him Eddy said "Well, one time I was walking- past the Marlon hotel and tho officer turn-od turn-od around and looked at me with a sneer on his face." Judge Reedor decided that his defense de-fense was not sufficient and sentenced sen-tenced him to serve 15 days in the chain gang. |
