The remainder of his sermon In part was as follows: "Up on the Alaskan coast thero ia a village whero the church and school nnd homes stand ombrnced In the green forest, hut amid eternal silence, for no one gees to school, no one rings the church bell no ono worships wor-ships at its altars; meu started to build a town, but it failed. So wo faco Q,fton the que&tlon, Will Christianity Chris-tianity fall, will" Its churches be emp-lv emp-lv and silent? Will materialism triumph tri-umph and Christ bo forgotten? "Emphatically I sav this morning that tho day will never come. The H trail of Christianity leads to the top fmm of the mountain, tho great movement H which started with a crucified re- H Jected peasant teacher of a despised H JewlBh village of a corner of the Ro- IH man empire twenty centuries ago, has IH steadily marched on till It has cross- H ed seas and continents, transformed IH races. leavened society , lifted up H childhood and womanhood, and will IH not stop till democracy is a reality, IH freedom a world heritage, human nn- IH turo transformed and this old world , H has made its best dreams realities. H "Facing the conditions of society H today, wars in Turkey, political tur- IH moll In America to pessimism. But IH unrest, dlscontont. longing for a bet- H ter, freer, Juster civilization, 'are born H of the very spirit of Christianity. JmmM When Christ died for the purest man H that lives, ho put such a premium IH on manhood that' at that hour slavery JWM and disposition to bossism wero IH doomed and every revolution of so- IH ciety was born that hour. W "Fear not, take heart; the Christ jH who survived 'the Roman empiro and IH has opened the gates of the world IH will yet be the dominant power in fWM politics, business, education, nations jH and life.
