Show NOTED PIONEER OF LEHI PASSES AWAY Ihl, Oct 29. James Harwood, one of Lchl's prominent citizens and early ear-ly pioneers, died at his homo here. IIo served twelve years as postmaster postmas-ter of Lehi under President Garfield, President Arthur, President Cloveland and President Harrison. Ho was elected elect-ed city recorder in 1895 and a member mem-ber of tho Lehi city council In 1901, and had been nctlvoly identified with tho upbuilding of local flnlncial Institutions. Mr. Harwood was born In Shep-dham, Shep-dham, England, July 21, 183-1 In 1S52 he came to Utah with his pnronts, Samuel and Mary Harwood. locating In Lehi He participated In the Walker Wal-ker Indian war aud other oarly skirmishes skir-mishes with tho red men In Utah. In 185S he married Sarah Jano Taylor. Me Is survived by thc following children: chil-dren: J. T Harwood, the Salt Lake artist; D. V Harwood, a Now York attorney; Fred A. Harwood, music professor, of Talladega, Ala,; Mrs. G. H. Smith, of Blackfoot, Idaho; Mrs. W. F. Welsh of Payson, Mrs. J. T. Winn of Lehi and Mies Maud Harwood, Har-wood, teacher In tho Lohl public schools. |
