Show METROPOLIS AS A NEW WARD James Wothcrspoon and John V Bluth of the North Weber stako presidency pres-idency returned from Metropolis, Nevada, Ne-vada, yesterday after spending twe days mak'ng 'preliminary arrangements arrange-ments for the organization of that district dis-trict Into a ward of the stako Thoy will return to Metropolis In a shorl time and perfect the organization Metropolis Is n new town neav Wells, Nevada, "with a population ol about 35 families. The prospects arc that the number of families will be Increased to more than a hundred during the present season. President Bluth states that thero aro about 100 000 acres of good land to be brought under cultivation from wa-tors wa-tors to bo taken from a reservoir a fow miles distant, on Bishop creek, all of which Is fertile and of high value, val-ue, as farm and fruit land. A modern mod-ern hotel has been built in the town and commodious school accommodations accommoda-tions have been provided. Considerable Consider-able sidewalk paving has been done and a waterworks system has been Installed. Most of tho peoplo at Metropolis havo purchased a small acreage ol tho Pacific Reclamation company and nearly all have taken up a quarter section of land under tho arid land acL Thc reservoir, which Is In course of construction, Is SO feet high and covers a sufficient area to conserve all tho waters of Bishop creek for Irrigation purposes. A branch lino of tho Southern Pacific Pa-cific has been built and a depot Is In contemplation at this time. Tho branch line extends from Talasco, Nevada, to Metropolis. Preliminary steps toward tho or-ganlnztlon or-ganlnztlon of an eco'eatlastlcal ward, which will form a part of tho North Weber stake of Zlon, were instituted by Presidents Wolherspoon and Bluth by appointing Wilford A Hyde as presiding elder and J B. Crapo as first coupBelor. James H. Allen was placed in chargo of the Sunday school system of tho ward and arrangements wero made for regular Sunday services. serv-ices. Tho organization will be perfected per-fected within the next few weeks. This is perhaps tho largest ward in area in tho Mormon church, it covering cover-ing a territory 300 by 400 miles in dimensions. |
