Show Cafe Owner Succeeds in Giving vthe Alarm Over, a Phone New York, Jan. 17. One of the most urgent calls ever received at a telephone exchange in th'.s rity came just before midnight from Otto Utthose's cafe In the Bronx. Tho proprietor himself was calling and ho asked for a hurry connection with the police station. When he got tho connection he gave his name and said: "My arms are bound behind me and I can't get the receiver to my ear, but in heaven's name send the "police quick. I have been bound and robbed rob-bed " Before the arrival of the police, however, Utthose had kicked in the glass of the front door of his place and was released by neighbors. Ho explained that two men had attacked and bound him and had run off with $1,000 In cash and valuables, leaving leav-ing him locked in. When no help came In response to his calls, ho knocked the telephono roceher off with his shoulder and gave the alarm.' |
