Show PROPRIETOR FOUND NOT GUjLTY Thc case of A. Kawata. thc Japanese proprietor of a cigar store and pool room, at Twenty -fourth and Lincoln, came up In pollco court this morning. morn-ing. It is alleged that Kawata sold tobacco to-bacco to boys under 21 years of age, but tho only witness examined for tho city testified ho could not state that he bought tobacco from Kawata, but from a Japanese woman said to be his wlfo. There was some argument between tho city attorney and tho court as to whether Kawata had committed an unlawful agt, the attorney for the city contending that by being the proprietor propri-etor of tho 6toro where thc tobacco was sold he had boon guilty of a violation vio-lation of tho ordinance. The court, however, held otherwise and tho case against Kawata was dismissed by Judge Reeder. New complaints are being made out against ,iho Japanese and It Is said that witnesses will be secured who can swoar that Kawata himself seld them Uo tobacco'. |
