Show BANK BOARD'S ACTS JUSTIFIED, HE SAYS Ely, Nev, July 11. A. B. Witcher of this city tonight issued a statement with reference to tho falso roport that former Governor Dlckerson and other members of the banking board had been arrested. The roport of the arrest was sent out by a news agency agen-cy from Reno and was published by several newspapers. Mr. Witcher declares de-clares that the board was justified In all Its acts. Mr. Witcher's statement is as follows: "Up to tho time Governor Dlckor-son's Dlckor-son's board wont Into office there had been practically no state bank laws; consequently when they assumed office of-fice they found a number of banks that did not conform to the law and to have closed them all up without giving them a reasonable time to get" themselves in shape would have been little short of criminal and would have closed or wrecked more than half the banks In the 3tato. "The banking board are entirely satisfied with their course and feol that It not only merits no censure, but Is entitled to all praise for the manner in which they handled the situation they wero forced to meet. They have each and erery one said that they would again follow the same course If they had It to do over again Unfortunately In the case of the Eureka County bank politics and bitter personalities have crept in, but If tho banking board Is called to account ac-count Governor Dlckerson and the board will not only justify themselves but the public will have a much fuller full-er knowledge of the conditions they had to meet "When the board ordered the Eureka Eu-reka County bank closed they recommended recom-mended that 'the former cashier be appointed receiver, but after a great deal of delay and squabbling Judge Breen refused to appoint our nominee, nomi-nee, but Instead appointed a stationary station-ary engineer to take charge of the $400,000 of assets It was hut nat-ural nat-ural that he could not get the best results, consequently tho bank has thus realized but 50 cents on the dollar dol-lar The depositors are naturally dissatisfied dis-satisfied with results and If Judge Breen cannot shift the blame .to tho banking board he must shoulder It himself Hence his wild charges against the board." |
