The matter of limiting or not limiting limit-ing the architects' competition was the principal subject of consideration In view of the fact that only about five noted architects from outside states had signified a desire to enter the competition it was finally decided decid-ed that the entries from these outside out-side men should be limited to five, thus getting the best talent from tho foreign architects' and leaving the field open to home talent. A motion was made by Attorney General A R Barnes and seconded ' by Colonel C. E Loose that the competition com-petition be limited to five foreign entries, en-tries, be thrown open to all architects archi-tects of the state and that the architects archi-tects of the stae be notified that he commission would be glad o receive-a receive-a communication within the next ten i days from all thoso so signifying their desire. The motion was carried by unanimous unani-mous vote. The idea is to have all the architects archi-tects who desire to be considered as entrants In tho contest notify the commission com-mission at once that the invitations may he made out and rules of the contest con-test be prepared and sent to thoso who desire to compete The names of the five outFlde architects ar-chitects who will bo invited to participate par-ticipate In the competition were discussed dis-cussed Informally, but no selection was made on account of tho fact that the governor and secretary of state wore compelled to leave the meeting before this mattpr was reached. There will probably be another meeting of the commission next Wednesday, Wed-nesday, when this matter will bo acted act-ed upon. A number of representatives of quarries In the state were present to urge the particular adantages claimed claim-ed for tholr various sorts of stone. A sandstone, quarried near Park City, was advocated as an admirable stone for use in the capltol, nnd a sort of limestone, quarried In Sanpete county, coun-ty, was also urged. Tho matter of stone, however, will not be finally decided upon until after the commission has visited more of tho quarries nnd made a most thorough thor-ough Investigation as to tho quality of the various kinds of stone offered and how It Is adapted to meet tho weather conditions in Salt Lake. |
