Show MINING INDUSTRY TO GET ATTENTION Salt Lake, July 11. J A. Holmes, director of the United States bureau of mines, Is in Salt Lake conferring with leading mine operators in regard to development work and prospective legislation affecting the western mining min-ing Industry He arrived hero yesterday yes-terday from Denver and Is stopping at the Hotel Utah. With Director Holmes came J. F. Collbreath of Denver, secretary of the American Mining congress. He Is here to confer with John Dern, pres Ident of the congress, and to frame the call and program for the fourteenth four-teenth annual convention of the American Am-erican Mining congress, which taken place in Chicago September 25. "My present trip west is for the purpose of getting acquainted with the mining men of this part of the country." said Director Holmes last night. "My first stop was at Denver, and there I found that the 'people of Colorado are taking more Interest in mining than at any time In years. I expect and hone to find i 'm. condition In Utah. "While here I will InBpect some of the larger mines, and also trp to get in touch with the owners and operators operat-ors so that I will have a better insight in-sight into the needs of the district in regard to tho work of our bureau. T want to get tho views and sugges-tions sugges-tions of the men who are right here on the ground. "Up to tho present time most of the work of the bureau has been confined con-fined to the coalmines of tho United States. We are striving to minimize the number of accidents In tho coal mines, and the reports for the past two years show that we are succeeding. succeed-ing. We have seven rescue cars In sorvlce. and three of them are locat-d locat-d In the Rocky mountain region 'It Is now our desire to extend our work to tho metal mines.
