Upon a great man of the forest fire boxos have been established at convenient points, containing a full equipment of fire fighting tools. Emergency outfits out-fits for fire fighters have also beon established at remote points. Those outfits consist of fire fighting tools, cooking utensils and non-perishable food supplies, sufficient to last a crew of five men not less than six days. The outfits have been distributed among the different ranger districts and are so placed as to bo Immediate ly available for use in tho outlying forest regions. This will make it possible pos-sible in case of fire to rush a few men in on foot if necessary and have everything on hand already for work at the very beginning of the fire. The most dlffcult emergency wheh has been encountered in district 4 this season has been along the line of the Wasatch national forest east of Salt Lake City. Fqur grass fires, covering a total of 1,500 acres, have swept through the cheat grass1 along the lower slopes of the range and have threatened to cross the boundary boun-dary and enter the national forest Thus far, however, the fire has been excluded from the forest boundary, and Supervisor E. H. Clarko reports that he Is hopeful of pulling through the year with a clean fire record with the exception of the email fires which are almost certain to be started bv locomotives along the line of the D. & R G. in its route through the Wa-sacth Wa-sacth national forest. District Forester For-ester Sherman states that ho expects to hoar from the remaining 11 forests for-ests in the district definitely within the next two or three days. However, he feels reasonably sure that no news is good news and that no fires have occurred upon these forests, or he would hae been advised of the fact before this. |
