Show i- i $ ; ! ji varied agenda considered by Parowan City Council II 1'akowai - rarowan ponce I chief Rick Evans met with the I council to discuss plans for his I department. Wayne Hermensen has been hired as a city policeman to replace Gary Adamson who resigned. A discussion was held on the police work that needs to be done including round the clock patroling. Deputy Sheriff Hyatt Bcntley was there to give his opinion on what police services are needed and current problem areas in town. Ronald Smith was also at the meeting to give the opinions and problems the businessmen in town have in regard to all night patroling etc. They are asking for complete coverage during the night. ' The council is now in the process of deciding how many men will be required for proper police protection. Councilman Earl Bunn reported to the council that a new city electrician has been hired and will begin work July 1. The new man is Merlin Nicholes of Salt Lake City. Mr. Nicholes is well qualified for the job, and is married to a former Parowan resident, Colleen Haycock. Parowan Chamber of Commerce Com-merce beautification committee members attended the meeting to give a report on planting and work that has been done on Main reconstruction and surfacing of 4th North Street right away and also on the re-surfacing of Pioneer Ave. Richard Tom Harris made a request to the City that they annex some property in Holyoak Lane on 6th West Street. Part of this property is in the City limits and part is not. Mr. Harris proposes to put in a subdivision there. The City agreed to do this and will begin the legal work to get this done. Mr. Harris will submit plans and maps to the City for this project. Engineers Koon, King and Knowlton met with the council to present preliminary drawings and specifications for the new Parowan water tank. The new tank will be located just south of the old one and be a one million gallon concrete tank. A few minor changes were made in the plans, and final drawings will i now be made, after which bids will be sent out with a July 10 deadline. Michael Jennings met with the council to request a business and beer license. He has purchased the old Bill Lowder Home and proposes to put in an eating establishment and dormatory type rooms for rent. The council took this matter under advisement ad-visement and will make a decision at a later date. A special hearing was held Wed. at 7:30 p.m. involving the opening of the general fund of the old budget. This involves the moneys that run all but the lights and water. Due to high costs of projects last year the books were opened and revenue sharing money in the amount of $5,000 was used to bajailce the debt. Airport Manager Bill Delida attended the meeting and reported on progress at the Parowan Airport. Documents and contracts are now ready to submit to the State Aeronautics Board, so work can begin on the extension of the runway. Street, and discuss future plans for more grass and trees to be planted on Main and Center Street. They requested continued help from the city in installing sprinkling systems to water these areas. They also thanked the City for the work done in this area so far. Members of the committee attending the meeting were Florence Mitchell chairman, Howard Knight president of the Chamber and Frank Adams committee member. Extensive planting has been done by this group with the help of some townspeople and plans for the future will involve finishing all of Main and Center Street to the Post Office. The city agreed to cooperate with the group in finishing this work as soon as possible. Members of the Parowan Valley Development Company have asked that land on 3rd East be deeded back to them from the City, as they wish to develop a project there in the near future. The City agreed to this as soon as possible. One bid was received on the building of the City Dog Pound. Bid was submitted by Ward Mortensen of Parowan and was for $3,200. The council will consider this bid, and. decide on whether to accept it. Councilman Koy Benson reported that Blackburn and Gower will begin work on |
