Show ROLLO-glyphics Hats off to our city fathers this week for the work that has been accomplished in getting a major portion of the oiling project completed at the Cedar City baseball complex. The piling of the parking area around the four parks and the contemplated additional improvements im-provements make the facility in Cedar City one of the greatest that any community could ask for and one that everyone in the community can be proud to be associated with. Bids have now been let to in-j stall curb and gutter on the north side of the park complex and once that installation is completed com-pleted the rest of the oiling project is expected to be completed. com-pleted. Once that is accomplished the total complex will really be a ! tribute to the community and to the city fathers who have made it possible. It should be pointed out that the four parks provide what is probably the most total recreational outlet that the community has available. Approximately 600 youths and adults participate in one form or another in an organized baseball or softball program. Again hats off to the city fathers for their efforts in accomplishing ac-complishing this worthwhile project. Deadline for filing for the three positions on the Iron County School Board for the November elections is less than a week away, but a check with the Iron County Clerk assures residents of the community of at least one candidate for each of the three positions. Deadline for filing will be Wednesday, June 26. As of Monday evening six candidates, including two incumbents in-cumbents had tossed their hats in the ring for the non-political posts. As of the above date Oscar J. Hulet, an incumbent, had filed for the district representing the unincorporated area of the county, but at this point is unchallenged un-challenged for the spot. District 2, representing Parowan, will be assured of a race in November with two candidates filing for the position including Ron Smith and Kenneth M. Joseph. The third position, representing represen-ting that portion of Cedar City East of Main Street will have a wide slate to select from with four candidates already filing for the position. . Heading the list is incumbent Royce Chamberlain. Currently he will be challenged by Devon Dennison, Steve Van Dyke and Charles Forrest Hunter. . In this week's Record you will find a picture and an announcement an-nouncement of the candidacy of Mr. Van Dyke for the School Board Position. We at the Record invite each of the candidates to submit a story, announcing their release with a brief sketch of their philosophies and of their i background. Such a presentation at no cost to the candidates, should give residents in the respective voting districts an opportunity to at least identify and become acquainted with those who are seeking to direct the highly complex operation of the Iron County School District. |
