Show Parowan Pioneer Day Celebration termed a success by leaders Michael and David Evans, sons of Norm Evans with a joint entry. The name the boys entered was "Pioneer Pride Days." Judging was by members of the Parowan Chamber of Commerce. PAROWAN - Two beautiful June evenings contributed greatly to the success of the first annual Pioneer Pride days held in Parowan June 14 and 15. An early morning old fashioned breakfast was served to a large number of people on the 15 with, the City Park as the setting. Bake Sales and sidewalk sales "were also held in the morning with a fast action little league ballgame at 10 a.m. As the evening approached the park was again the scene as Howard Knight showed his excellent skills with the barbecue, by preparing real buffalo meat so it was a taste delight. Everyone was invited to the barbecue and many people took advantage of the opportunity to dine on buffalo meat. The Red Hill Wranglers sponsored a Rodeo at 8 a.m. each evening with professional announcing an-nouncing and handling of the show. Art and Ed Walunas of Swiss Village furnished lively music during the dinner and were also joined by George Hartlmyer of Brian Head, singing and yodeling. Those who attended enjoyed an exciting evening of well run events. ' ' Parowan and the surrounding citys and towns here are very proud of the Pioneer stock that settled this area, and they wish to make this into an annual celebration to honor the men and women who worked so hard and gave so much to come here and help build these communities. A contest was held to name this new celebration with a $25.00 cash prize to be awarded to the winner by Parowan City. Many entries were received with many fine suggestions.
