PTA compile School History A thorough search through local history has shown that the first president of the Cedar City PTA Council was Edna Sargent. Bullock, several history books that have been compiled since 1952 to 1978. These beautiful books contain history of the PTA and our schools in Iron County. Each individual school in Iron County is asked to keep a history of that particular school and those books are kept in the schools. Since there has not been a home for the Council's History book, it was decided in the March PTA Council Meeting to give these books to the Public Library where they could be placed in the Special Collection Room so anyone searching for history of Iron County and it's schools could have access to them. Mrs. Bulloch said, "we are happy to accept these books on behalf of the library for our historical collection." In checking through the history of the PTA in Cedar City, we found that one unit was started in 1925 with Dr. W7m. R. Palmer as the first president. Following is a list of the presidents who followed him: 1926-27, Sabina Wood; 1927-29, Hannah Foster; 1929-30, Alice Lunt; 1930-31, Mildred Sargent; 1931-32, t.il r Kathryn Leigh; 1932-33, Zelma Lunt; 1933-34, Ira Heyward; 1934-325, Mrs. James E. Gurr; 1935-36, LaNita Green; 1936-37, Faye Greer; 1937-38, Grace Bowman; 1938-39, Florence Higbee. 1939-40, Flora Bowman; 1940-41, Edith Baker; 1941-42, 1941-42, Mres. J. V. Rocco and Ann Warner; 1942-43, Grace Lundell; 1943-44, Zola Dover; 1944-45, Edna Sargent; 1945-46, Dorothy Noel; 1946-47, Clara Knell; 1947-48, Iva Givan and 1948-49, 1948-49, Blanche LeBaron. During that time Mrs. Sargent said there were only three schools in Cedar City -an elementary school, a junior high, and a high school. In 1949 the Cedar City Council was formed and Edna Sargent was elected as the first council president. The presidents were: 1949-51, 1949-51, Edna Sargent; 1951-52, Pauline Hunter and Martha Jones and 1952-53, Erma L. Smith. Since our history books tell the story from then on, we can also list the historians on most of them. There is one year missing that we would appreciate knowing who was the president. That is for the year 1960-61. Study has shown the Council Preesidents and Historians from the year 1952 to the present were, with president listed first followed by the historian, as follows : 1952- 53, Mrs. Boyd Smith and Mrs. Theron Ashcroft. 1953- 54, Mrs. Dee G. Cowan. 1954- 55, Mrs. LaRue Higbee and Bernice McArthur. 1955- 56, Mrs. Ethel Farn-sworth Farn-sworth and Mrs. C. J. Parry. 1956- 57, Mrs. Richard Gilles and Mrs. C. J. Parry. 1957- 58, Mrs. Naida Gardner and Ethel Farn-sworth. Farn-sworth. 1958- 59, Mrs. Irene Wasden and Pearl Bennett. 1958-60, Mrs. Wayne |
