Power Users Unification Essential A meeting was held Monday in St. George by the Southern Utah Citizens for Fair Power as they considered con-sidered the formation of the Southern Utah Power Federation. The event was a "by invitation in-vitation only" affair for mayors, city councilmen, and power board members from the area. The general pulse and outcome of the meeting, according to John Plestina, local representative to the SUCFP, proposed that the articles of incorporation of the Southwest Power Federation be drawn up immediately with all communities given the opportunity to join. The motion passed unanimously by the members present. The group heard from Ken Hill and Charles Harper, of the Rural Electric Administration Ad-ministration in Washington, who said the R.E.A. could not provide financing for the federation to buy the rural portion of Cal-Pac's system. Hill suggested the federation could qualify for Cooperative Financing Corporation (CFC) funds. It is the financing arm of the REA members, he said. "The unanimous concensus con-census of everyone there," Plestina reported, "was if we are going to solve our power problems, it must be a united effort of pumpers, rural communities and cities in the area. The feeling was very strong that Cedar City is not alone and the feasibility study should include the entire system that is now served by Cal-Pac. |
