Show Jay Overson, president of the Iron County Board of Education, will resign his post at the meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 18, it was announced this week. Overson will resign as a member of the School Board owing to hismoving from the precinct from which he was elected. Under state law a board member must reside within the confines of the precinct boundaries from which they are elected. Although Overson will be moving to another location in Cedar City, he will move out of the geographical boundaries boun-daries of Precinct No. 5. In anticipation of the resignation Dr. Clair Morris, superintendent of the District, has suggested that anyone interested in being considered to fill the unexpired portion of Overson's term should contact the District Office or other members of the School Board. Under the terms of the law, the Board can appoint a replacement for the unexpired term, but after 30 days, if the board has not appointed a replacement it becomes the responsibility of the Iron County Commission to so name a replacement. Dr. Morris indicated that it would be the intent of the board to name, Overson's successor at the Wednesday, Wed-nesday, May 3 meeting of the board to be held at the District Offices. Overson was named to fill the unexpired term of Ken Knight on the board and in elections held in November 1976, Overson sought election and was unopposed. His term, however, was for two years only owing to the reapportionment of the districts at that time. The position, along with precinct No. 4, will be up for election in November. However, both will be for four year terms. To qualify a person must be a qualified elector in Iron County and live within the geographical boundaries boun-daries of the Precinct. |
