Show Margaret Callister 1 978 "Motherof the Year" Mrs. Elizabeth Zaleski of Parowan has good reason to be proud this week.as her mother, Mrs. Margaret Callister of Delta was named Utah's 1978 "Mother of the Year," Mrs. Callisters picture and story appeared in the April 8th issue of the Deseret News. Mr. and Mrs. Callister are the parents of 16 children, nine boys and seven girls, all 16 have attended college "three at a time," and 10 have served missions for the LDS Church. Three hold Doctors degrees, five bachelors and 4 masters degrees. The children have attended a Square in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Callister will represent Utah in the "American Mother of the Year" selection in Des Moines, Iowa May 7 though 11. Mr. and Mrs. Zaleski traveled to Salt Lake to the ceremonies. Thirteen of the Callister's 16 children were there. The Callisters also have 56 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. total of 67 years of college. They all loved sports and five of the boys were state champions in wrestling. The Callisters lived on a farm in Delta where they raised alfalfa and grain. All Die children learned to work and help with the chores. Mrs. Callister stated that "Everybody had to help. It was good training for them. They had to learn how to work and appreciate things. 1 think in a big family you learn to give and to share. I think giving them responsibility respon-sibility when they are young really helps them to grow," Mrs. Zaleski said. Since the Callisters children all married Mrs. Callister has worked as a nurses aid in the West Millard Hospital. Last October she and her husband were called on a mission to South Dakota and they have another year to serve. She and her husband flew back to Utah for her to accept the "Mother of the Year Award" in ceremonies in the Assembly Hall on Temple |
