Show The time is fast approaching for likely candidates for public office to file with the county clerk for the upcoming 1978 elections. According to Clair Hulet, County clerk, the official date filing can begin is April 15. But, he said, since that date falls on a Saturday, the filing "for all intents and purposes" opens April 17. The filing will close 5:00 p.m. on May 10. An announcement of intention to run, such as media acknowledgment of a candidate, is not sufficient, Hulet noted. All candidates who wish to run must also file. Those offices to be voted on by the registered voters this fall Hulet said, include two county commission seats, one two-year post and a four year seat on the board, positions presently held by Grant Seaman and Geo Wood, respectively; all other county offices; the newly established County Auditor's office; two local school board positions, namely districts four and five; and the state school board position from District seven. Other major elected offices which will be up for grabs include the seat from Utah's Second Congressional District, presently held by Dan Marriott; and the state representative represen-tative post from District 74, presently being served by S. Garth Jones. The Fifth District Court Judgeship is also to be voted on by citizens this fall, if the present judge files his intention in-tention to keep that post. Some dates to remember in this season's political fanfare: Mass meetings for both parties-May parties-May 15; Party conventions,-the exact date is to be set by the parties involved in-volved but must take place in June; filing deadlines for local school board offices-last Wednesday in June. |
