The Golan i Heights, an area of about 150 square l miles reaching in a bow from the foot 1 of Mt. Hermon to the Sea of Galilee, ' was Syrian territory until it was captured by Israel in the 1967 war. A Syrian surgeon, a Syrian journalist jour-nalist (Rafik Atassi, pictured), an Israeli journalist and an Israeli farmer describe their feelings toward the histories that separate them and toward the future that could bring them peace. 'Golan' also deals with the Palestinian Palestin-ian question (a subject that is dealt with at greater length later in the series) and the tragedy of the Syrian economy. It deals, too, with the possibilities for peace. The series was filmed in late 1974 and originally broadcast on PBS in February and March of 1975. It won an Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia Univer-. sity Award in Broadcast Journalism. |
