The "brand new" Camaro was damaged in transit and presented to the school as a part of the ongoing program of General Motors to make these damaged vehicles available for training purposes throughout the country. SUSC Shop receives Chevrolet Camaro Some of the Chevrolet cars and trucks now turning out the most impressive "mileage" are those that have never been driven a mile on the road, such as the Chevrolet Camaro LT recently donated to the Southern Utah State College in Cedar City. These vehicles total nearly 2,000 cars and trucks damaged by wrecks, floods, and other mishaps on the way to dealer showrooms which have been given to schools and other institutions in-stitutions to help build automotive mechanical careers for young men. Also included in the program are engineering test and pilot line cars, not available for sale. At latest count, after five years of the Chevrolet donation program, damaged cars and trucks and test cars naa Deen lurnea over 10 schools and institutions in most of the 50 states, according ac-cording to R. D. Good, Chevrolet's national director of service operations. In addition, Chevrolet also has donated large numbers of cars and truck engines, transmissions and other major automotive components com-ponents to schools for vocational studies. The donation program was begun in 1971, Good said, in an effort to find a more useful purpose for the damaged units which previously wound up in the scrap crusher. Burton Cox of Orderville was the recipient of the David L. Sargent Outstanding Manhood Award and the Mildred P. Sargent Outstanding Womenhood Award was presented to Anita Heaton of Alton. |
