Show Garn favors 0SHA Court Ruling U. S. Senator Jake Garn said he is "generally pleased" with the Supreme Court's ruling Tuesday that government agents must obtain a warrant before searching businesses for safety and health hazards. He expressed "disappointment," "disap-pointment," however, that the court did not require agents to show "strong probable cause" for conducting con-ducting the spot checks. "Some OSHA agents have been guilty of using Gestapolike Gestapo-like tactics to harrass businesses into complying with health and accident standards that 'are all to often absurd and entirely uncalled for," Garn said. "The court's decision to eliminate 'warrantless searches' is an important step in guaranteeing the rights of privacy of businesses and all Americans. It just didn't go far enough," he added. |
