Show $70,000 in scholarships awarded Cedar High seniors Scholarships valued at between $65,000 and $70,000 were awarded to graduating students of Cedar High School at a special Awards assembly held last week prior to the close of the school year. Scholarships were offered by all of the major colleges in Utah including Southern Utah State College, University of Utah, Utah State University, Brigham Young University, Weber State College and both the Utah Technical Colleges at Provo and Salt Lake. In addition a special scholarship was awarded to the West Point -- valued at $46,000 plus as well scholarships to Ricks College, to Evans Cosmetology College and scholarships to be applied to the school of the student's choice. Following is a list of the scholarships and the recipients : SUSC Scholarship Scholarships from Southern Utah State were the most predominant at the awards assembly. Scholarships from SUSC were awarded as follows: Scott Shakespear. Studentbody scholarship. Gene Franklin Jensen, Academic Award valued at $390. Craig A. Bickmore, Leadership, valued at $300. Ruth Jones, History, $190. Jim Francisco and Karma Kenney, Activity, $150 each. Rhonda M. Beal, Science Scholarship. Elementary Education: Brenda Stones, Karen Roene Morris, SheraLyn Heap, Clarica Corbridge, $190 each. Kelli Carter, Business $190; Nyleen Bosshardt, Accounting $150 and Janette Rice, Business, $150. Engineering and Science Awards went to: Calvin J. Hamilton, $190; Neil Giles, $190; Paul Dean Hatch, $390 and Jay Sandberg, $390. Composite Awards Several composition awards were presented from SUSC. Roger Seegmiller received a $240 athletic scholarship and a $100 music scholarship. scholar-ship. Larry Webb received a $100 music and $50 activity; and Ray Arden Munsic had a $100 music and $50 math award. In the area of music the following awards were presented: Susan Lyman, $140; Virginia Haynie, $180; Michael Wayne Graf, $180; Lourie Embley, $120; Stacia Eagar and Sherrie Roper, $100 and JeriLynn Bryant, $150. In the technical areas Jeff Middleton received a $190 in auto mechanics; David Coles received a $190 in graphics and Steven LeFevre a $150 award in electronics. Two young ladies from Cedar High were accorded athletic scholarshins valued Craig Wood in Technical and Barbara Bonzo academic. Also representing the kiwanis Club a $100 scholarship was presented to Ray Munson by Mr. Hoyle. Memorial Award The recipient of the Tim Tucker Memorial Scholarship to SUSC in the amount of $150 was Kevin Jones. Mrs. Elixaoem Dewsnup representing the BPW Club presented a $360 scholarship to SUSC to Jackie Riddle. The Pink Ladies have also established a scholarship to be awarded to a student who will continue their education in the field of nursing. Recipient of that award, in the amount of $200, was Elizabeth Petty. Presenting the award was Hazel Mowrey. Pdqp PiHr A ufnmnhilo Dealers presented an award to Paul Sherratt in the amount of $300 to be used at SUSC. Two scholarships to the Evans Cosmotology College were awarded to Carrie Gubler and Leon Nelson each valued at $150. Other Scholarships A full tuition scholarship to Utah Technical College was accepted by Steven M. the Utah Technical College at Salt Lake offered a scholarship in graphics to David Brooksby. A $150 speech and drama scholarship was accepted by Eleanor Leigh to Ricks College and $150 scholarship to the LDS Business College was presented to Sandra Hulet. An Honor Society Scholarship was presented to Scott Mathews valued at $100. at $178 each. They were Bonnie Baldwin and Debra Thompson. Christopher Mark Lamoreux has been a accepted ac-cepted into the United States Military Academy at West Point and his award was presented by Major John Cox of the Utah National Guard. Additional Awards Steven Starr received a $390 scholarship from the Utah Construction Employment Em-ployment Credit Union presented by Leilani Davis. Gene Jensen and Karen Morris, for academics and Mitzi Morris for dance each received $462 scholarships from Utah State University and Ceryl Tolino and Elizabeth Petty received Deans Awards from Brigham Young University valued at $420 each. Also receiving an athletic grant in aid at athletic scholarship at BYU was Brad Jackson. His scholarship called for tuition, books, and fees plus $700 per year for four years. Weber State Scholarships A full tuition academic scholarship to Weber State College was accepted by Jane Taylor and Carolyn Jones accepted as Nursing Scholarship to WSC, both valued at $411. Annually, the Rotary Club presented a scholarship and the recipient of the $390 award was Mark Masterson. Joe Lopour, Exalted Ruler of the BPOE Lodge No. 1556 in Cedar City presented seven scholarships to Cedar High School students. Recipients included: Ruth Jones, $350; Calvin Hamilton, $250; Lisa Samuelson, $100; Lourie Embley, $100; SuAnn Adams, $50; Francine Branin, $100 and Roger Seegmiller, $50. Jody Parcell was presented with a $200 scholarship by Mary Fullmer representing the Lady Elks Auxiliary. Iron County Insurance Agents annually present scholarships to Cedar High Students.
