Show Math Students attend Confab Southern Utah State College mathematicians recently attended a regional meeting of the Mathematical Mathe-matical Association of America and received special recognition for having a 125 percent attendance at-tendance record. The SUSC mathematicians were among the 50 Utah and Idaho high school, college and university educators who met at Weber State College for the 2nd Annual Spring Meeting of the Interountain Section of MAA. Professors Richard Ray Tebbs, Lewis Kimball Jones, James W. Cotts and Gregory A. Fredricks-100 percent of the mathematics faculty at SUSC-attended the meeting. They were joined by Steven H. Heath, a SUSC mathematics professor currently on sabbatical leave, for the 125 percent attendance record. During the two-day conference con-ference Fredricks and Tebbs read papers dealing with their mathematical research at SUSC. Fredricks discussed "Jet Bundles with Structure Sheaf," and Tebbs discussed "Math Models Resulting from Infiltration of Fluid in a Partially Saturated Media." Heath participated in a panel discussion "Common Problems of Mathematics Faculty and Instruction in Colleges and Universities of the Region." |
