Show I 1 State TYo38 Com in issionr5 cosiirsbuie to Enterprise anibu lance The Iron County Commission meeting in an apparently popular night meeting situation Wednesday contributed $1,000 to the City of Eri-terpirse Eri-terpirse to purchase a used modular ambulance unit. Lee Bracken, Enterprise safety councilman, told the commissioners the ambulance would be available to operate in the western end of Iron County. Bracken emphasized the ambulance would cut response time for patients in outlying parts of the county by a big margin. The motion, as okayed by Jim Clark and Grant Seaman, said the contribution con-tribution was subject to legal agreements being worked out between bet-ween the counties involved and the approval of Intermountain Health Care, Inc., leasors of the Valley View Medical Center. Average four Seaman said he had some concern over the revenue which would be lost by using the Enterprise ambulance instead of the present Iron County system. The unit, to be purchased from Sevier County, Bracken said, would average about four calls per month. Patient preference and location of accident will determine whether patients are brought to Valley View, Bracken said, "and we hope county lines don't even come into the question." Cost of the $8,000 unit is paid one half by state funds, $1,000 each from Washington and Iron Counties, and $2,000 by the City of Enterprise. Garbage delegation In other action, the commissioners heard from a delegation of about eight persons, who said they represented about 400 county residents, who expressed ex-pressed their displeasure over the county solid waste disposal district. The county was urged by the delegation to look into possible "breech of contract", claiming D & O Sanitation was not fulfilling its part of the contract. Wade Helms, resident of the unincorporated portion of Mid-valley, Mid-valley, said the canisters used by the special service district, are not being picked up as often as the contract calls for and are not being washed as specified. He, and others, also said the landfill site, the old Smith Pit, is not being properly maintained or manned. The commissioners told the group the issue of the garbage district is presently in the hands of the court system, and they would do nothing until it is resolved there. Revisions due The commissioners also discussed with the delegation gathered some of the water-sewage problems in the county subdivisions. Some of those present questioned using a septic tank sewage disposal for the new Enoch Elementary. The commissioners also told the group revisions in the county ordinances concerning subdivisions and water systems are upcoming. Other business included a letter from United States Steel, urging the commission to not approve a subdivision sub-division planned in the Pinto Mining District, Iron Mountain. The subdivision sub-division known as Far West, has been presented to the County Planning and Zoning Commission. The commissioner passed the letter of disapproval on to the Planning and Zoning Commission and indicated they would probably not allow the subdivision, due to facts brought to light by the letter. Deputy to run Dan Harris, a former deputy sheriff for the county, announced his intention in-tention to run for the office of County Sheriff to the commissioners. He presented them with a release stating a portion of this platform. Harris said the efficiency and administration of the Sheriff's office could lx improved by doing less "backslapping and more police work." (see related story, this issue). About six county Road Department employees met with the council, thanking them for recent equipment purchases and seeking changes in their "accumulative sick leave" policy. The commissioners moved to okay the change of having twice monthly salaries checks for county employees and asked for a written proposal on wage incentives to be presented before the board again at a later date. The commissioners noted a special meeting u ill be held Thursday, Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. to discuss salary changes for county employees. Other action The commissioners also: -took under advisement a request from the Cedar Kiwanis Club for a maintenance man at the Wood's Ranch ice rink during the winter months. The advantages of using a member of the road crew or some other county employee were discussed by the visitors and the commissioners. -advised LEAF members Earl Hanson, Lou Cardon and Bob Williams "The commissioners have no authority" to change the tax assessment structure within the county. The LEAF proponents reviewed with the commission the advantages of restructuring the land assessment procedures. -tabled a decision on establishing a deputy county medical examiner until it could be determined whether or not the county physician is presently doing the same thing. |
