Show Cedar Bowling Lanes to Close on June 1 Iron County will lose a very fine recreational facility this coming week when the Cedar Bowling Lanes will close for good. The $365,000 unit was opened open-ed the later part of 1959 and with the mines in full operation opera-tion did very well, but, during the last three years it has been a struggle to keep it going since it has been losing well over $21,000 per year, according accord-ing to owners, William Thor-ley Thor-ley and John Rowberry. They feel it is useless to insert additional ad-ditional money because of the constant decline of business and lack of support. It is unfortunate that the area w ill not support a winter sport that can be enjoyed by any person from eight to seventy. sev-enty. There is much to do in the spring and summer but a real problem in recreation is winter win-ter time and bowling will be lost to the area. The present operation was considered one of the finest in the state. Rowberry and Thorley indicate indi-cate that the equipment will be removed shortely. The building and property has been listed with an Ogden Development firm and present owners announced it is entirely entire-ly up to developers as to what goes into the area. It is possible pos-sible the building will remain vacant for a time until full development of the complex has been decided. |
