Show Rezoning Hearing Draws Wide Interest of Cedar City Residents Nearly 200 residents turned out Thursday evening for a public hearing called by Cedar City Corporation to consider rezoning a narea of 200 North Street adjacent to Interstate Highway 15, to highway services. ser-vices. Following the hearing, in which testimony both for and against the. rezoning was heard, transcripts were made up and this week will be in the hands of members of the Cedar City Council for further study and possible action in the near future. At the outset the Mayor asked that those responding take into consideration what is in the best interest for the ( entire community- Factions were represented with well prepared statements ! and testimony to support their support either for or against the rezoning proposal. j Concern over the deviation of business into another area and its possible effect on al- 'i ready established businesses ! ! was expressed, the resulting problems for adjacent property proper-ty owners was also a factor considered, and a point in favor of the proposed change was the ultimate goal of luring lur-ing additional traffic off the Interstate system as a means of stimulating and increasing Cedar City's economy. A representative of a major oil company with interests in the area commented following the hearing that the example of democratic proceedure at the hearing was one that all Utah cities could adopt. He expressed high regard for Mayor Whetten and the City Council for the manner in which the hearing was conducted con-ducted and the opportunity afforded citizens of the community com-munity to express their personal per-sonal and collective opinions. Also on hand was Dale Des-pain, Des-pain, city planning consultant, to answer questions put forth in connection particularly of limitations and expressed requirements re-quirements of "highway services" ser-vices" zoning. |
