Show Parowan Resident Dies from Recent Stroke i Thomas H. Rowley, 85, retired farmer and active worker in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints, passed away in Parowan Par-owan Saturday, Feb. 10 after a long illness from causes incident inci-dent to age. He suffered a stroke several weeks ago from which he was unable to recover. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock In the Parowan First-Second Ward chapel with Second Ward Bishop Bish-op Cordon Farnsworth conducting conduct-ing and making brief remarks. Speakers were Mrs. Barbara M. Adams, and Bishop W. Leonard Leon-ard Evans, with a tribute written writ-ten by Mrs. Ramona Munford and Richard Rowley of Cedar Cl- ty, being read by Mrs. Munford. The prayer at the family home was by the deceased's brother, George S. Rowley, the invocation was by Gordon Batt, the benediction benedic-tion was by Harvey Rowley, and the dedication of the grave in the Parowan City cemetery was by Richard L. Rowley, all three of whom are grandsons of the deceased. Opening and closing songs were "Oh My Father," and "Abide with Me," resjcctively, by a double mixed quartet consisting consist-ing of, Mr. and Mrs. E. Ray Lyman, Ly-man, Mr. and Mrs. D. Watson Adams, Mary Dawn Dalton, Roberta Ro-berta Rowley, Charles H. Gurr and F. C Van Burean, accompanied accompan-ied by Mrs. Dott Smith Other musical numbers were a trio, "My Testimony," by Gay, Kathcrine and Sharon Rowley, accompanied by Georgia Rowley, all granddaughters of Mr. Row-ley; Row-ley; a vecal duet, "In the Garden," Gar-den," by Ramona Stubbs and Shirley Evans accompanied by Vyonne Chamberlain; a vocal solo so-lo "Dear Lord Take My Hand," by Carol Lou Munford accompanied accom-panied by Ramona Stubbs. Mrs. Smith was at the organ for prelude pre-lude and postlude music. Thomas Henry Rowley was born in Parowan on Oct. 22, 1876, a son of Richard and Mary Ann Ray Rowley and spent bis entire en-tire life here, engaging In farming farm-ing and livestock raising. He was married to Minnie Frith on Oct. 5, 1904 In the Salt L-ke LDS Temple. She died Dec. 17, 1959. Active in the LDS Church all of his life, he was a high priest in the Parowan Second Ward. He had served In the bishopric of the Parowan Ward prior to its division di-vision and continued In the same position in the old Parowan West Vard bishopric. He and Mrs. Rowley fulfilled a three-year mission mis-sion to the St. George Temple. He also filled a mission In. the Southern States as a young man, and he had been very active in genealogical work,' serving as a member and then chairman of his ward genealogical society. He is survived by five sons And two daughters, Waldo F. Rowley, Hauler City. Nev.; Harold Rowley, Row-ley, West Covlna, Calif.; Richard E., Ronald and George F. Rowley, Parowan; Mrs. Chester (Verda Munford, also of Parowan and Mrs. Chester (Edith) Batt, Cedar Also surviving are one brother George S. Rowley, Parowan, two sisters, Mrs. Lotte Lee, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Estella Ca-son, Ca-son, Cedar City; 29 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. |
