L. Robert Gardner, of the architect firm of Gardner and Rasmussen, Cedar City, presented the 130 sheets of plans for consideration of the board at the special session. ses-sion. He indicated that the plans call for two separate buildings build-ings with a combined total square footage of approximate- ly 143,000. He further indicated that the total cost is estimated to be over two million dollars. Principally the buildings are on one floor. The general building build-ing will house the basic classroom class-room facilities, administrative offices of-fices and a multi-purpose auditorium audi-torium with a seating capacity of 990. In addition special storage facilities in the basement of the building have been planned for the housing of the school district's dis-trict's bus fleet and for other purposes. The second building will house the physical education program and the food services. This building build-ing Is actually two stories with the second story to be on the same level with the ground floor of the general building. 3000 Seating Capasity Retractable bleachers at the level of the gymnasium will allow al-low for a total seating capacity of 3000. When the bleachers are retracted it will allow additional addition-al space on the playing lloor area, and will release the second sec-ond story floor levels for additional addi-tional physical education activities activi-ties and also for expanded facilities fa-cilities for the food service. Superstructure, according to Gardner, will be of re-inforced concrete. Exterior facings will include in-clude a combination of concrete panels, brick and some porcelain enamel steel. Planning for the new high school campus and physical plant has been under way for a number of years, according to lanthus Wright, school district superintendent. However, specific speci-fic planning did not begin until the passing of a bond issue in May 1960 which set up the financing fi-nancing of the proposed new school. Iron County property owners went to the polls in May 1900 to vote on a $2,900,000 bond issue for the principal -purpose of developing de-veloping the new high school. Immediately following the bond election an additional aid in the planning of the new facilities fa-cilities was given a boost when Stanford University Planning Laboratory, assisted by a Ford Foundation Crar.t assisted In the working out of the educational educa-tional specifications of the plant to fit the teaching philosophy of the Iron County School system. Superintendent Wright stated.
