Show Howard Foulger Advanced To Forest Service Assistant ' i J v - HOWARD R. FOULGER Howard R. Foulger, Supervisor of the Dixie National Forest In southern Utah since 1958, will become Assistant Director of the Division of Range Management at U. S. Forest Service head- quarters In Washington, D .C, March 18. The report, issued today to-day by Regional Forester Floyd Iverson, said Mr. Foulger's new Job would Involve assisting the Division Director as a techrlcal consultant and advisor regarding management and utilization of forage resources throughout the National Forests. He will also organize and direct nation-wide programs in this connection. Succeeding Mr. Foulger will be Jack B. Shumate, currently with the Internal Audit Staff at the Washing, D. ('., headquarters. Mr. Foulger, an Ogden native, began working with the Forest Service at the Intermountain vForest and Range Experiment Station in Ogden in 1939. and later la-ter performed rang? work on the Caribou National Forest !n Idaho. In 1911, he become a Ranker on Idaho's Targhee National Forest, latct holding the same position on the Manti-LaSal National Forest Fo-rest In Utah. Subsenuent Jobs Included Assistant Fcest Super- visor on the forest, and Assistant Assis-tant Chief with the Division of Range and Wildlife Management In the Ogden Regional Office prior pri-or to his Dixie National Forest appointment. A forestry graduate of Utah State University, Mr. Foulger Is prominent In scouting, and Is a member of the Society of American Ameri-can Foresters, Rotary, and the Utah Historical Society. Mr. Shumate was born In Oklahoma Ok-lahoma and graduated in forestry fores-try from Oregon State College. In 1911, he began work with the Forest Service as a fire lookout In Oregon, then saw active duty with the Army for four years. From 191S-19."1 he was a Forester, Fo-rester, Assistant Ranger and Dis-trict Dis-trict Ranger on National Forests In Arizona. Mr. Shumate was later advanced to a forest statf position on the Coconino and ) Tonto National Forests In Arlzo-i Arlzo-i na. I Prior to his present Washington Washing-ton apiMiintmcnt, he erformcd fire control duties at the Regional Region-al Office In Albuquerque, New Mexico. He will arrive In Cedar City with his wife and family , next month. |
