Show Elizabeth Day Lyman Selected State's Best Gardener A very fine honor came to Mrs. Elizabeth Day Lyman, 78 year old resident of Parowan, when she was named as the "best gardener gard-ener of the year" Monday in a contest sponsored by the Salt Lake Tribune ind the Utah Associated As-sociated Garden Clubs. Mrs. Lyman, highly respected lady of this city, was honored at the Tribune's Spring Garden Festival, Fes-tival, which opened Monday in the Newhouse Hotel. Mrs. Lyman was presented with an engraved silver bowl as an award. Mrs. Lyman who went to Salt Lake City for the festival, admitted ad-mitted she was dumbfounded when she learned she was select-ed select-ed for the honorvShe was chosen from 60 entries over the state. Mrs. Day was entered In the contest con-test by Jean Hendrickson of this city. ' Mrs. Lyman who has been a resident of Parowan for 58 years has always been a very good gardener. She Jived on the Day farm In Parowan valley for many years, and always kept a garden there. Since moving to town she has spent much of her time In gardening and raises one of the best vegetable and flower gardens gar-dens in Parowan. She has entered enter-ed both flowers and vegetables each year. She invites her neigh-each neigh-each faU bors in to see her gardens and furnishes flowers for many events during the flower season. She lives alone Flnce the death of her husband O. M.
