Show j. flo Comment HI , WASHINGTON The course of Congress in the rest of the session may well bo determined by what constitu-j ents tell Senators and Representatives who are back home for the 10-day Easter recess. Major decisions will begin to take shape soon after Congress reconvenes on April 14. These involve taxation,! spending, labor measures and others. I The Easter recess offers Congressmen an opportunity! to contact voters and taxpayers in their home areas. And Congress needs the sound advice: I of thr citizens, including businessmen. busi-nessmen. I It has hrvn suffering from re- cession jitters, complicated by . the division of power between I the Republican Administration I and Lvmooratic Congress, and I the struggle for political ascendency ascen-dency in the coming election. Pressure groups seek appropriations approp-riations of astronomical sums of money to combat the business I downturn to Incur deficits j amounting to billions annually to flout the dangers of Infla-( Infla-( tion to assume responsibilities of states and local governments I to centralize more power in I Washington. Major issues to be settled in the coming months include: J Taxation Most Congression. ; al leaders now say taxes will be cut S3 to $6 billion annually. They expect the Eisenhower Administration Ad-ministration to support such a program, in spite of the hesitancy hesi-tancy on the part of many high officials, and the President's insistence in-sistence that no decision has been made. In view of this sentiment. i more and more attention is be- Jing paid to the kind of tax reduction. re-duction. . I Remarkable business support I is being given to the Sadlak-lllerlong Sadlak-lllerlong Bill. This measure provides pro-vides for reduction of highly dis-l criminatory individual and cor-' poration income taxes under a plan which would result even-! . tually in a t.ip bracket of 42rA J I This program, businessmen' say, would not only proviae long overdue tax reform, but would provide a sound basis for busi-; ness to grow and provide more jobs. j I But Congress is being bom-I bom-I barded with other tax proposals j many of them designed only toj spurt temporarily consumer buying buy-ing power instead of meeting the fundamental issues. Economy Congress has al-1 ready appropriated funds some bills on Administration recommendation recom-mendation which will increase spending so that a deficit of at least $2 billion is certain in this fiscal year, and unquestionably: a much larger deficit in the new fiscal year. j The contest thus far is between the New-Fair Deal advocates of unlimited public works and oth-, er spending plans to provide! .jobs, and the Administration program to stimulate employ-1 'ment but on a less grandiose scale.
