Participants Set for Special TV Showl Six numbers chosen from 15 participating in the combined talent r.liow held Wednesday evening at the College of Southern South-ern Utah auditorium will appear In a special Southern Utah Talent Tal-ent Show on Channel 2 In Salt Lake City on Sunday, April 20 according to Eugene Jelesnik, conductor of the Salt Lake Philharmonic Phil-harmonic orchestra and TV talent, tal-ent, scout from Salt Lake City. Jelesnik indicated that even though only six numbers were, chosen for the special Southern Utah show on April 20, nevertheless, neverthe-less, he will be calling in, per-Idocally, per-Idocally, other numbers from the show to appear In the regular Sunday Utah Talent Quest Show as guest performers. Selected to appear on the special spe-cial show were Leon Cheever of Cedar City, ventrilruism and sound effects; David Randall. Cedar Ce-dar City, clarinet solo; lienor Lund, Paragonah, accordion solo; the "Tammettes," vrx-al quartet from Cedar City; Bruce Ilafen,' St. George, piano solo, and Kathleen Kath-leen Bowler, Mesfuite, Nev., v:i-cal v:i-cal solo. Those eight young people of this area, representing four talent numbers, were named winners In the Kiwanis Junior Talent Show held Saturday evening. Three of the four numbers were also se- lectcd to appear on TV in Salt Lake City. A vocal quartet, the group features the unusual singing voice of Tammera Robinson with the background filled in by a I sister, Lainna Robinson; Karty Bringhurst and Judy Matheson. . The group is ably accompanied by Pamela Wood. In the senior division of the contest, which featured some unusually un-usually fine talent, a novelty act featuring the combination of ventriloquism and sound effects won for Leon Cheever, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Cheever, top honors hon-ors In the division. Leon told the story of "Little Red Riding Hood" with a modern twist ar.d complete com-plete sound effects. Second place In the Junior division di-vision was won by Joy Williams, young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Williams of Cedar City, with an accordion and tap dancing danc-ing act. Heher Lund, a product of Par-agonah, Par-agonah, won second place honors hon-ors in the senior division with his presentation of "Accordion BooL'io." These four contestants plus four others were select d to appear ap-pear on Wednesday's show. Three of the four additional numbers came from the senior division and included a ree.ird pantomime of the "Banana Boit Song" by Douglas Rowley of Parowan and Joe Topham of Paragonah; "Hora Staccato," n played on the the clarinet of David Randall and a modem western presentation with electric elec-tric guitar accompaniment by Paul Mangum of Caliente, Nov. From the junior division third place winners, LaRue Jerkins and Kathy Loer of Cedar City, won their way on the show with a vocal-guitar presentation of "The Ballad of the Teenage Queen." Each of the contestants ws awarded a fountain pen through the courtesy of Neal and Olie's Market, Bills Grocery and Safeway Safe-way Stores. First prize in the senior division was awarded by Columbia Iron Mining Company with Utah Construction Co. and Jones Motor sharing the honors in the Junior division. Second place prizes were awarded by Bradshaw Home and Auto and James Hoyle Insurance in the senior division and Cedar Drug and Drug Center In the Junior division, aecoiding to James Hoyle, chairman of the event. |
